Jacaranda Ballet School

Jacaranda Ballet School was founded in 2009 and strives to create an atmosphere that looks at the bigger picture of dance and ways of exploring training a dancer with good technique and a fun way of learning.

Jacaranda takes students from young to old and is not an audition based entry system. All students are treated equally and given the chance to shine. We do not enter competitions but do Ballet exams for those who wish to enter.

A dance student should take pleasure in learning and that involves hard work but a sense of achievement too. Dance training involves the whole person and we want our dancers to gain self-confidence and social skills, musicality, coordination, good posture and get plenty of exercise! We offer our students the chance to choreograph, to be involved and to perform.

We are especially proud that we focus on the community. The dancers, their family, their friends and the local community - we want everyone to be involved and join in. We hold everything from family social events, sparkling big productions to theatre outings. It's a team effort that involves the dancers and their families in everything that we do.

Jacaranda offers Classical Ballet (Cecchetti Method), Tap, Street and Jazz dance classes. We accept boys and girls of all abilities from 2.5 years to adult.

Teachers are trained and qualified to teach their subject. Jacaranda Ballet aims to provide a safe, positive and friendly atmosphere where students come to enjoy their lessons

Our Performances

Andrea Young - Principal

I started ballet at 3 years old whilst living in Hampshire, as I loved dancing and music.
My family then moved abroad to Swaziland, Africa, with my fathers' job. I was devastated to discover that there were no ballet schools where we lived.
Still, with a passion to dance, my parents decided to send me to a residential school in England which specialised in ballet and music. Following a successful audition, I went to Tring Park, Hertfordshire, on a scholarship place. Ballet training began in earnest at 11 years old. Tring Park was wonderful for the ballet but the cold and raining climate was not so much fun! I longed for the African sunshine.
When I left Tring Park, I went to London to the senior department of the Arts Educational School to continue studying. I graduated after 3 years with a Diploma in Classical Ballet.
After leaving AES I worked as a dancer both in the UK and Europe. I also continued my education to obtain my teacher qualifications, as I have always loved teaching.
I started my teaching career in Malta in 1983 and I have been teaching ever since.
Teaching Qualifications: LISTD (Cecchetti), A ISTD (Imperial)
Dancing Qualifications: Diploma - Classical Ballet, Arts Educational School, Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2 in Cecchetti Method and Imperial Method.

Carrie Widdowson-Groves - Teacher

Carrie started dancing at the age of 3, she grew up studying Cecchetti ballet, and ISTD Modern, Tap, Disco and Jazz and Lamda Drama.

She has performed in many shows over the years with her dance school, Frogmore School of Dance, in local pantomimes, various musical theatre shows with Karen Clarke Theatre Company, dance and drama competitions, she has performed in London shows and has made TV appearances.

Carrie went to Brooklands college in Weybridge where she studied A-level Dance and Performing Arts. After finishing college she took a break to become a beauty therapist before returning to her passion of dancing.

Carrie as been choreographing and teaching for the last 12 years for a performing arts company, where she was teaching students aged 2 1/2 to adult, she’s also choreographed for Surrey Heath Gang Shows, corporate events, weddings and Pasha’s strictly tour in Camberley.

Carrie is excited to be working for Jacaranda and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Jasmine Parry - Teacher

I have been dancing RAD ballet since the age of 3 as well as jazz and modern when I was 9 at Farnborough Academy of Ballet. Dancing has always been my passion especially dancing onstage in front of an audience. I have sustained merits in all my dance exams grade 1-intermediate as well as performing many group dances and solos on stage in productions such as Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. I started dancing for Andrea and fell in love with the school and the supporting family value it holds. I never knew what I wanted to do in the future however with the amazing support of Andrea and Carrie I’m currently studying to become a qualified dance teacher CBTS with the RAD. I’ve loved teaching the little ones and assisting the older students it’s so amazing to watch them grow and dance so beautifully. I’ve loved every second working at Jacaranda Ballet and I can’t wait for the future.
